The keenly contested regional election of the Volta Region New Patriotic Party is currently underway in Hohoe in St Francis Teachers Training College Hall at Hohoe despite an earlier hold-up after EC officials indicated that they have been served with an injunction laid on the election as secured by a disqualified candidate Kofi Boateng.
Electoral Commission (EC) officials packed out of the venue earlier in the afternoon but after a long while of a hold-up of more than an hour, the EC officials returned amid heavy security to reset the booths and the arena for polling. Delegates across the Volta region are casting their ballots to elect executive for party as part of ongoing regional delegates conference.
Interesting positions to watch
The chairman position is one of the keenly contested positions very known party persons seeking the office.the Chairmanship position is been contested by Douglas Kirk Wagba, a former Regional Manager of erstwhile Ghana Telecom and a former primaries campaign manager for the President Nana AKufo-Addo; Makafui Kofi Woanya, the incumbent Regional Organizer; Johnson Avelete, Regional Co-ordinator of Pre-mix fuel; David Apugiga, a former Hohoe Constituency Chairman; and Ken Anku, A lawyer. George Kofi Boateng, a businessman was disqualified for the Chairmanship of the party, for which he sought an injunction.
An interesting position to watch if that of the Regional Secretary which is being contested by the Deputy Regional Communications Officer and Post-graduate Public Relations Student, Enoch Amegbletor; the incumbent Regional Secretary, a former banker and currently the Volta regional Manger of the National Health Insurance Authority, Joseph Homenya; and one Innocent Tetteh. the competition seems to be between Enoch Amegbletor who is calling on the youth of the party to support his new agenda of inclusion and rejuvinizing the communication of the party ; and Joseph Homenya who is preaching to continuity and hopes that his work as the regional secretary will be rewarded by the delegates.
Accident
However, a candidate for the position of the Regional Women Organizer, Hannah Ashade, was involved in a road accident in the eraly hours of Satuday April 21 on the Hohoe-Santrokofi road. Hannah Ashade is currently recuperating at Hohoe Municipal Hospital.
