Government Secretarial School Hostel in Ho narrowly escaped destruction as a vigilant passerby detected smoke emanating from a room’s ceiling on Monday, November 13, 2023, around 5:35 pm.
Swift action was taken to alert and evacuate the female students before the fire engulfed the two-storey building’s roofing.
Panic ensued, with students running and screaming, but fortunately, the Ghana National Fire Service promptly arrived to extinguish the flames. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and there were no injuries reported.
According to Mr. Michael Segbedzi, station officer 2 with the National Fire Service, the fire’s cause was traced back to the burning of dried grasses and tree branches behind the hostel, which ignited the roof.
Mr. Segbedzi also took the opportunity to educate students on fire safety precautions and provided the direct contact number (0201-515-465) for the Ho office in case of any future incidents.
