The President of the Republic, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo together with his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo as well as the Vice President, H. E. Mahamudu Bawumia and wife Samira Bawumia, on Monday, 1 March, 2021, received the first jabs of the AstraZeneca vaccines which arrived in the country on Wednesday as part of the fight against Covid-19.
This exercise was carried out in order to assure the citizens and also open up their minds to the safety and security of the vaccines.
While the President and his wife received their vaccine jabs at the 37 Military Hospital, the Vice President and his wife received theirs at the Police Hospital, Accra.
In a short ceremony which was organized to commemorate the vaccination process, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the relevance of the process by making it clear that it was an example which he had to set for others to follow.
Meanwhile, the President, in his 24th Covid-19 update to the nation on Sunday, gave a clear breakdown of how the vaccination was going to be carried out as well as those who will receive this first batch of doses. According to him, the vaccination process will take place in 43 epicenter-districts, constituted by 25 districts in Greater Accra, 16 in Ashanti and 2 in the Central Region.
With the help of about 12,471 vaccinators, 37,413 volunteers and 2,079 supervisors, the vaccines will be administered to four categories of people.
The first group is made up of “persons most at risk and frontline state officials.”
The second group consists of other essential service providers and the rest of the security agencies. 
The third group is made up of the rest of the general public, that is persons over 18 years, except for pregnant women.
The fourth and final group captures pregnant women and persons under the age of 18.
