HTU inaugurates Choir; Outdoors Anthem

The HTU Staff Choir has officially been inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga.

The ceremony also saw the official launch of the University Anthem, composed by the Choir Master, Mr. Henry Prince Kumeko, a Senior Assistant Registrar.

Performing the launch at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium on Wednesday, July 21, 2022, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Choir master and the members for their dedication and sacrifices towards the growth of the choir over the years.

“Management appreciates the efforts of the choir, especially in projecting the good image of the University,” the VC stated and assured them of the needed support.

Prof. Honyenuga also called on all stakeholders in the University to contribute towards the growth and sustainability of the choir.

To this end, the VC made a special appeal to the various staff groups to make contributions towards procuring robes for the choir, which would be outdoored in December, 2022.

Mr. Kumeko, the Choir Master on his part said the choir started in January 2016 with eight members, on the behest of the then rector of the institution, Prof. Emmanuel Sakyi.

Its current membership stands at over thirty (30), three of whom are PhD holders. It also has over 50 songs in its repertoire, some of which were composed by the choir master.

According to Mr. Kumeko, the choir since its formation has performed at various functions within and out of the University.

He also disclosed plans to record some the choir’s collections for sale, to further project the name of HTU. He used the occasion to call for support in that regard.

In recognition of his dedication to composing the University Anthem and instrumental role in the formation the Choir, the University Management honoured Mr. Kumeko with a plaque and an undisclosed amount.

The inaugural event was laced with melodius performances by the HTU Staff, supported by Mawuli School band and UHAS Choir.

The ceremony was also graced by the President of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Prof. Edem Kwesi Bakah and the Registrar, Mr. George Debrief (Togbe Dogbeda V).
