HTU, DTI Engage Master Crafts Persons on PQ Curriculum

As part of activities towards the launch of the Precision Quality Curriculum at Ho Technical University, officials of Design and Technology Institute, (curriculum developer)  together with officials of HTU on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 engaged Master crafts persons and other artisans in Ho, on the relevance of the PQ Curriculum to their trades.

Both the CEO of  DTI, Madam Constance Swaniker and Vice-Chancellor of HTU, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, together with other officials took turns to enlighten the artisans, on the need to acquire the PQ skills in order to enhance their trade skills to globally accepted standards.

Madam Swaniker explained that, the PQ Curriculum, was designed to bridge the gap between industry and academia, and hence, entreated the artisans to enroll for the programme, which is funded by the Mastercard Foundation.

As part of support towards the training of Master crafts persons, DTI presented a sets of tools and equipment to Kwanesco Engineering Limited, a metal fabrication firm, located at the light-Industrial area in Ho, which is an industry partner for the implementation of the PQ Skills Curriculum.

A female Auto sprayer with almost 30 years experience, Madam Rose Agbemakplido was also gifted an equipment for her trade and also named as PQ Ambassador, together with the CEO of Kwanesco Engineering, Mr. Nelson Kwame Attah.

The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Prosper Pi-Bansah, who graced the occasion, lauded the initiative, which he  believed would transform the artisanal sector, to attract young people to acquire skills in various trade areas.

Meanwhile, HTU students have also been oriented on the new curriculum, which will be piloted in the University, starting the second semester of the 2020/21 academic year in five departments.

Shots from the ongoing orientation for students on the new Precision Quality (PQ) Curriculum about to be introduced at Ho Technical University.

They are departments of Fashion and Textiles, Building Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,- Auto and Production.

So far some 17 facilitators have been trained to teach all five models of the PQ Curriculum, together with three Master trainers.
