Mr. Ikuya Horiuchi, a volunteer on the Japanese International Corperation Agency (JICA) Volunteers Programme in Ghana, has assumed duty at Ho Technical University.
The 39-year old Engineer and Academic, was on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, introduced to Managment of HTU by officials of JICA Ghana Office, including, Mr. Fedelis Tuuli Gaamuo, Programme Officer and Yoshinori Wada, Coordintor of Volunteer Programmes.
According to Mr. Gaamuo, the agency has completed all administrative processes regarding the transfer of the volunteer, who, he said would be at HTU till the end of 2021.
While in the University, Mr. Ikuya will offer his services in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, where he would bring to bear, his electronic engineering expertise on students and Faculty.
Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the volunteer and assured the JICA representatives that, all necessary arrangements have been put in place to make his stay in the University, a comfortable one.
Mr. Horiuchi was urged by Management to make his impact felt in the department, as the second semester was just beginning. He in turn, called for the support and cooperation of staff of the user department to function meaningfully.
The Vice-Chancellor again expressed gratitude to JICA for their long standing relationship with HTU, and assured them of the University’s readiness to pursue other programmes of mutual interest.
Dr. Baidenger Agyekum Twumasi, Acting Head of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, on his part, said they were long prepared for the arrival of the volunteer, who is the third the department is receiving from JICA over the period.
He thus assured JICA and Management of the University of the needed support to make Mr. Horiuchi’s stay a success.
