The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, on Wednesday, 19 August, 2020, promised to pay for the training of young artisans if he is elected into power in the upcoming December 7 general election.
Massive crowd welcomed Mr. Mahama to the Ho Main Market
The former president John Dramani Mahama, as part of his four day tour of the Volta Region, which started from Monday, 17 August, to 20 August, 2020, made this known at the Ho main Market square, which was thronged with market women and party faithful’s, when he paid a courtesy call on the market leaders.
He said his next administration will see to it that all the youth are employed.
“If you want to be a dressmaker, we will pay your master to train you. If you want to be a mechanic, we will pay your master to train you” Mahama said.
The former President further said he met the management of the Ho market at the time of commencement of the re-construction of the market. At the time, he indicated the agreement with the leadership and shop owners was that, space will first be given to those who were already in the market before allocations would be made to new entrants. Unfortunately he observed that is not how it turned out to be.
Former President Mahama thus promised to correct any injustice when he returns to power. He added that “In NDC, we don’t like injustice”.
Mr. Mahama’s four day tour of the Volta region took him to all the 18 constituencies. He used the opportunity to introduce the party’s parliamentary candidates to the electorates. He also paid courtesy calls on some traditional leaders in the region.
He then thanked the leadership of the Ho central market. He also apologized for not being able to meet them as planned.

Background
In 2016 general elections, Mr. Mahama won all the 26 constituencies in the then Volta region, by a total of 629,398 votes. This represented 80.97% against President Nana Akufo-Addo’s 135,077 votes gained, representing 17.38%.
But President Nana Akufo-Addo won the national election with 5,755,758 votes (53.7%), whiles Mr. Mahama pulled 4,771,188 votes (44.5%).
