HITA FOUNDATION HANDS OVER A FULLY FURNISHED ICT LAB TO UHAS

Students and the faculty of the University of Health and Allied Sciences – Ho Campus now have a modern facility to enhance effective teaching and learning through Information and Communication Technology.

It follows the inauguration of a 40 seater Electronic and Mobile learning computer laboratory for the university by the Health Information Technology for Africa (HITA) Foundation, a non-profit organization base in Germany.

The project which is a collaboration between the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UHAS, and HITA Foundation is expected to promote teaching and learning through innovative ICT solutions.

The project among other things is also to enable lecturers to apply modern, more effective teaching methods in their day-to-day work by equipping them with structured and IT-Supported approaches.

In her address at the inauguration ceremony, the Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, at UHAS, Professor Prudence Mwini-Nyaledzigbor expressed his profound appreciation to HITA Foundation for carrying out this good initiative aimed at improving the teaching and learning of ICT in the University.

She however urged the users to take proper care of the facility so that the purpose for which it was set up can be achieved.

Director of Academic Affairs at UHAS, Mrs. Lucy Aryee who also lauded the initiative by HITA Foundation was hopeful the support will in the long run enable university to undertake their exams online. She also disclosed that by next week another set of forty computers will be installed in order to facilitate E and M learning.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Professor John Gyapong called on the students and faculty to rekindle the spirit of volunteerism and giving in order to move the institution to a higher pedestal.

He further used the opportunity and urged the ICT Department to undergo a routine maintenance on the computers in order to for them to last.

As part of the inauguration, there was an official donation of medical equipment and supplies by the HITA Foundation to selected beneficiary health facilities.
