Campaign for free treatment of conditions not under NHIS launched to support needy

A campaign to help make diagnostic procedures and treatment options not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to offer free treatment for the needy has been launched by Breast Care International (BCI), to support the needy that are unable to subscribe to the NHIS.

It is observed that a large percentage of the rampant late-stage presentation cases are attributable to poverty and in order to remedy this unfortunate trend, the campaign christened: “Your Gh1 Donation Can Save A Breast And A Life” also seeks to solicit donations and mobilize funds to cater for transportation and post-treatment rehabilitation of patients.

The campaign invites donations from individuals, groups, companies, institutions and agencies as well as the general public to donate Gh1.00, by dialing a short code *711*91# across the three major telecommunication service providers in Ghana, MTN, Vodafone or AitelTigo, to support the campaign.

In a statement to launch the campaign at Accra on Wednesday May 2, 2018, the President and Founder of Breast Care International, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, noted that the theme for the campaign: “Your Gh1 Donation Can Save A Breast And A Life reflects the latest projection of the board and management of BCI, for an all-inclusive nationwide drive to re-kindle the spirit of charity to secure our future”.

According to the celebrated Ghanaian breast cancer surgeon , the cost-spreading strategy, through the user friendly short code is to encourage contributions from across the entire social-strata.

“We should all contribute generously and show reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which can cause needless and preventable diseases and deaths among us”, she emphasized.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Peace and Love Hospital, also emphasized the importance of giving and offering support to those who lack in society, noting that “the gratification in giving stems from our shared love and values for humanity.

Giving is very impact, because it introduces our children to the importance of generosity, while encouraging friends and family to do the same. We are each other’s keeper. We are so closely and directly affected by each other’s acts that, reasonably, we ought to take everyone into consideration in our everyday endeavors”.

Dr. Wiafe Addai therefore appealed to the general public to donate generously to support a worthy cause.

“Remember to tell a friend, to also tell a friend to simply dial, *711*91# to MTN, Vodafone or AitelTigo and donate One cedi to save a mother, sister, daughter, niece or wife. Remember, Gh1.00 can save a breast and a life”, she reiterated.
