COVID-19: Ho Municipal Assembly relocates market women

The Ho Municipal Assembly has relocated traders at the Ho Main Market on Wednesday 22nd April, 2020 to the Rehabilitation Training Centre (RTC) near the market in order to create more space for social distancing and other precautionary measures against the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with Volta Premier Fm on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Ho Municipal Assembly (HMA), Emmanuel Kwesi Alorsey said there was the need to relocate traders in order to make space in the market.

“The assembly thought it wise that, because they [traders] are not adhering to this [thus, not going to market on market days] then the available spaces that we have, we need to now relocate those on the street to the available spaces”.

Due to the overcrowding nature of the market, the HMA had earlier decided to eliminate market days and make everyday a market day. But traders have not adhered to this directive, thereby forcing the assembly to now relocate some traders.

About 30 police personnel enforced the relocation exercise.
