SOSTEC appeals for Classroom Block and Staff Accommodation

Newly crowned champions of the 2019 National Inter-School Independence Day debate competition, Sokode Secondary Technical School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region are hoping to leverage on their newly attained status to get education authorities in the country to address some teething infrastructural challenges in the school.

The school, according to the assistant headmaster of academics, is in dire need of classrooms and staff accommodation as the current facilities are woefully inadequate to accommodate the increasing student’s population. Currently only two teachers reside on campus.

Sostec defeated Acherensua SHS from the Brong Ahafo region representing the northern zone in the final on Thursday after emerging winners from the Southern part of Ghana. The school started its debate campaign from the inter school level through to inter district, zonal before emerging national champions.

Flanked by his students on Monday in the studios of Volta Premier FM, George Ewoyi says though their debate success remains a surprise to many, they have achieved that not because they have everything as a school but the leadership led by the headmaster and teachers have committed themselves no matter what to give out their best. He has called for a support for the school to achieve more. “We have only one classroom block and the number keeps increasing. Last year we perform creditably in sports and that boosted our admission, most people heard us and came to school. We also need staff accommodation. As we speak here, there are only two teachers residing on campus”

According to the contestants, they studied and debated on issues of social media, the judicial system and traditional leadership with the support of their teachers, parents and colleagues.

Sostec was represented by Vincent Senyedzu, Grace Akorli, Bridget Afari, Godstime Drafor, Courage Mawuli Nyadzi and Joyce Ousu Ayee-Nimako.
