Revisit Tax Exempt Clauses before RTI passage

Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition is asking parliament to take a second look at clause 12 of the Right To Information (RTI) bill that seeks to protect information on tax liabilities and tax returns.

Speaking at a media sensitization forum in Ho on Wednesday June 13,2018, Programme Officer , Kwesi Boateng Assumeng believes that allowing clauses that tend to hold important information on taxes for development will defeat the purpose of RTI.

“In this era where we talking about illicit financial flows,we talking about capital flight and other issues that bother on tax regimes making sure we get the best for citizens,we are of the opinion that such issues of tax exemptions should be made available”.

The RTI which is currently at the second reading stage in parliament has spent over 16 on the drawing board.

Key advocates of the bill believe the RTI which is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the constitution of Ghana can help fight corruption.
