Ignore Herald’s publication on the revocation of the appointment of HTU Vice Chancellor- Registrar

The Interim Registrar of Ho Technical University, Dr. C.K Amehoe in a press statement dated Wednesday 13th February, 2019 is urging the general public, alumni and students to disregard a report in today’s (13th February, 2019) Herald Newspaper with the headline “Education Minister revokes appointment of Ho Technical University Vice Chancellor”.
According to the release, Council of HTU at it’s 29th Special Meeting held on Friday 18th January, 2019, unanimously approved the appointment of Prof. Ben Quarshie Honyenuga as Vice Chancellor. His approval followed the receipt of the report of the Search Committee for Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University constituted by Council chaired by Professor K.K Adarkwa,a former Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. It further  added that, the University has on record a call to probe into the authenticity of Professor Honyenuga’s doctorate degree from two faculty members (Dr.Richard  S. Akplotsyi and Dr. Cephas Bosrotsi)  but that was dealt with by the National Accreditation Board in two separate letters to all parties concerned that he (Dr. Honyenuga) had an authentic doctoral degree.“A letter dated December 13,2018 to the University and signed by the Ag. Executive Secretary of the NAB,on the subject matter “Evaluation of Certificate,Ben Quarshie Honyenuga”by Open University of the Netherlands,is comparable to a “Doctorate,PhD,in the relevant subject area, awarded by a recognised tertiary institution in Ghana”

The University says it therefore was surprised the Herald could publish such falsehood.“It has therefore come to the University as a surprise that the HERALD Newspaper could publish such falsehood and state that “it was as a result of the brouhaha surrounding Mr. Honyenuga’s PhD that has led to the Minister abrogating his (Mr. Honyenuga) appointment as new VC pending investigation”.

Prof. Ben Honyenuga joined the institution in 1997 as an instructor and has risen through the ranks as the first faculty member to be appointed to a professional status in the University.

He has served as Dean of Students, Vice Rector,Pro Vice Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor.
