PFIZER & NGOs IN HEALTH DONATES ITEMS TO CHAMPION IMMUNIZATION IN THE VOLTA REGION

In their pursuit to ameliorate immunization coverage in the Volta Region, Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health with support from Pfizer has donated some items to help increase immunization coverage in six districts in the region.

The items include; a tricycle, seven motorbikes, solar lamps, seventy chairs, ten tables, three hundred immunization registers and two freezers.

The beneficiary districts include; Ho West, Nkwanta South, Ketu North, Ho Municipal, Kpando Municipal and North Dayi district.

Speaking to journalists after the presentation, National Vice Chairman of Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health, Mr. Bright Amisah Nyarko said the presentation was meant to enhance the work of the District Health Directorates and the Community Volunteers across the six districts.

He also stated that, Volta Region is found to be one of the regions with low immunization coverage, hence, the need to put in much effort to fight against the phenomenon in the region.

Mr. Bright Nyarko further explained that the motorbikes would help health workers to reach out to the hard to reach communities to carry out immunization services, while the freezers would help store the vaccines so as to keep them effective.

On his part, Chairman of NGOs in Health who also doubled as the Executive Director of Afrinet-Ghana, Mr. Victor Atta Ntumi in an interview said the NGOs in health embarked on this initiative to complement the efforts of the Ghana Health Service in making sure that every child has access to quality immunization services.

Mr. Victor Ntumi also added that, the three hundred immunization registers would help community volunteers to register every child and pregnant woman in their various communities while making it easier for health workers to give quality referrals to the pregnant women in order to make sure that they received quality health service.

However, Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa who received the items on behalf of the districts urged the beneficiaries to take very good care of the items and also put them to a good use, so that the purpose for which the items were donated can be fully realized.
