Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo, in measures to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), announced the closure of the country’s borders to human traffic for two weeks, starting from March 22, 2020. However the borders are not closed to goods, supplies and cargos.
In his Update No.3 to tell the Ghanaian citizenry about government’s continues measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus, President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his satisfaction about how Ghanaians are observing the precautionary measures.
He said, “I’m encouraged by the numbers of Ghanaians that are observing the prescribed social distancing and enhanced hygiene protocols announced earlier. However it has become necessary to take additional measures to stem the spread of the virus, and protect lives of our people. We must do everything within our power to contain the spread of the virus.”
Ghana Health Service however, immediately after the president’s Address to the Nation, announced the 21st case recorded by the West Africa nation, and also their 1st death by a carrier.
Meanwhile, the president in his previous address on Sunday March 15, 2020, has placed a ban on all public gatherings including, conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities, such as services in churches and mosques. Private burials are however permitted, but with limited numbers, not exceeding twenty-five (25) in attendance.
