Parliamentary Committee on Gender and Children calls for more collaboration among agencies

The Parliamentary Committee on Gender and Children has called for stronger collaboration among various state agencies at the regional and district levels in country to ensure efficient implementation of government policies.

Members of the committee made the observation during and after stakeholders engagement on Friday November 8, 2019 in Ho as part of their tour of the 16 regions of Ghana to interact with relevant stakeholders on the progress and impact of government policies.

The Committee led by Hon. Bintin Charles Binipom took time to listen to presentations from various state agencies including the Ghana Education Service, National Commission for Civic Education, National Peace Council, Department of Gender, Department of Children, Ghana School Feeding Programme among others.

The presentations highlighted major progresses made by these departments, challenges and recommendations from both the agencies and the committee towards the full implementation of polices.

Key among issues raised were lack of logistics for these institutions, unavailable district offices and trained personnel, inadequate staff and partisan politics in some cases at the detriment of general country goals.

Whilst members of the committee admitted that there was the need for the state to resource its institutions, it added that the existing departments can collaborate to ensure a harmonious implementation of programmes and policies to the benefit of Ghanaians.

Other members of the committee included Hon. Alhassan Mumuni, MP for Salaga North,
Hon. Betty Krosbi Nana Afua Mensah,MP for Afram Plains North,
Hon. Isaac Adjei Mensah, MP for Wassa East and Hon. John Kwaku Adu of Ahafo Ano West.

The committee is funded by Star Ghana Foundation.
