No immediate plans for Online Exams- HTU Vice Chancellor

Vice Chancellor of Ho Technical, Professor Ben Honyenuga has stated that, the University has no immediate plans to conduct online examination for students in this era of the Corona virus pandemic, which has forced the closure of schools in the country.

Addressing the university community in a live Social Media interaction on Wednesday May 27, 2020, Prof. Honyenuga stated that, knowing the disadvantages associated with the current system, management was not in a hurry to carry out end of semester exams virtually.

The announcement is expected to cure some uncertainties surrounding quizzes, tests and semestral examinations online.

“Let me state categorically that we don’t intend to write exams online because we are aware of some disadvantages in the system”

On online services, the VC announced that the University has now launched a short code (*713*34*5#) that would enable alumni and students to access transcripts, detailed results, attestation, English proficiency and recommendation letters.

Speaking on the contribution of HTU to the national fight against COVID-19, the VC stated that apart from the production and donation of masks to the public, the University has also received approval from the Food and Drugs Authority for the production of ‘HTU Quality Hand Sanitizers’

Prof. Honyenuga also addressed concerns on students’ accommodation, industrial attachment, national service postings, fees and other charges.

He challenged students to stand out with any innovation at this critical moment and that he the VC is willing to announce to the world anything new that students may create to help Ghana out of the pandemic.

Whilst encouraging students to take advantage of the internet to pursue online courses, he also cautioned against using same platform to spread negative news about the university.

The 90 minute Wednesday’s interaction offered students the opportunity to put before the VC their concerns and questions through WhatsApp, the Facebook pages of the University, the campus radio station, Volta Premier FM which  also carried it live.

The event was powered by Ex TV ( www.extvgh.com) an online TV channel based in Ho.
