Ho Technical University defeated Evangelical Presbyterian University College in this year’s Inter- Tertiary Debate organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority,Volta as part of the celebration of 2018 United Nations World Tourism Day which falls on September 27.
Tuesday’s event at the Chances Hotel in Ho was on the topic “Is digital marketing actually better than the traditional marketing in tourism promotion? “.
Two students each from both institutions had the opportunity to speak for or against the motion. The panel of judges after collation of their independent marks scored 715-650 in favor of Ho Technical University which was represented by students from the marketing department.
They took home a plague. HTU was represented by Faith Anani and Diano Balo whilst Jemima Otabil and Victor Woledzi represented EPUC.
In his opening address, the Acting Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Alexander Kwame Nketia emphasized the need to create a one stop platform nationally and regionally to make sure tourists have access to information at a click “at the local or regional level here, we are also working on a regional website with domain name www.visitvoltaregion.com which should be up by December where we plan to link it to the national website”
Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27.
Tourism is currently Ghana’s fourth largest source of foreign exchange earnings estimated at US 2.2 million in 2015.
