To ensure service excellence among industry players, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is collaborating with other stakeholders to set up a Hospitality Training Institute.
The initiative is one of the Ghana Tourism Development Projects which is sponsored by the World Bank.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO of GTA at the annual Regional Tourism Awards in Ho, on 11 September, 2020, Mr. Michael Kpingbi, Manager of Operations, Head office, said, “the Hospitality Training Institute will ensure service excellence among industry players.”
He buttressed the need for the establishment of the institute by adding that, “currently the Hotel, Catering and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT) is offering training in frontline, tour guide among other courses. All these initiatives will help address the issue of quality service delivery in our hospitality industry in Ghana”. Mr. Kpingbi reiterated that, these attributes can not be overemphasised in ensuring clients’ satisfaction in the tourism industry. Unfortunately, while some stakeholders insist on these qualities, others throw caution to the wind. It was for this reason and many others that he noted the need for the celebration of tourism awards to promote and celebrate excellence in the hospitality and tourism industry.
According to Mr Kpingbi, as regulators of tourism enterprises in the country, GTA is faced with challenges of illegal operators. He therefore used the medium to invite prospective operators not licensed by the Authority to get in touch with the regional offices of the Ghana Tourism Authority to regularize their operations.
The 2019 Volta Regional Awards, saw 19 competitive and 7 honorary awards respectively given to deserving industry players and stakeholders.
