6 year old chronic asthmatic patient gets support of HOTEPOSA

It was a timely intervention when members of the Ho Technical and Polytechnic Students Association (HOTEPOSA), a Chapter of the Ho Technical University Alumni Association, visited the Children’s ward of the Volta Regional Hospital and met a 6 year old who suffered athsmatic attack requiring intensive care.

The members of the group visited the hospital to donate toiletries, detergent and biscuit to the Children’s ward of the Volta Regional Hospital as part of their Annual General Meeting in Ho.

The Kindergarten 2 pupil of E.P Primary School at Kpando required urgent financial assistance to access healthcare at the Intensive care Unit of the Volta Region for his condition because the parents cannot afford the bills.
Mawuko Amlade has been on admission at the Volta Regional hospital for the past 3 days and required intensive care yet had to remain at the children’s ward for the period even though his case was critical because his single mother, Theresa Appaw, could not afford the bills.
They were unable to even access basic drugs on the National Health Insurance Scheme because the boy does not have a National Health Insurance card. Nurses at the ward have to help with their own to feed him.
Before being admitted at the Volta Regional Hospital, Mawuko was rushed to the Margaret Marquart Hospital at Kpando by his teachers at the EP Primary School, who contributed money to send him there for care 3 weeks ago. His situation was not improving so Mawuko was referred to the Volta Regional Hospital. It was a collective effort of staff and nurses of the Margaret Marquart Hospital to get him the Regional hospital by contributing a sum of One Hundred and Eighty Cedis.
Luck was indeed on the side of Mawuko when  Members of the Ho Technical and Polytechnic Students Association (HOTEPOSA), a Chapter of the Ho Technical University Alumni Association, visited the children’s ward . Every member of the visiting team could easily notice that the 6 year old boy was suffering. Upon hearing of his plight donated a sum of One Thousand Ghana Cedis for care. Mawuko was immediately moved to the intensive care unit where he is currently receiving treatment.

The members of the group visited the hospital to donate toiletries, detergent and biscuit to the Children’s ward of the Volta Regional Hospital as part of their Annual General Meeting in Ho.

However, Mawuko requires more financial assistance because the donation from HOTEPOSA cater for barely 3 days of being in the Intensive Care Unit and he would also require drugs and many other services to manage his condition. It costs Three Hundred Cedis to be admitted at the Intensive care Unit for a day. These, the mother who washes dishes at the Pantry of Bishop Herman College at Kpando, cannot afford. She is distraught and appealing to benevolent individuals and organisations to help restore the health of her son.

Chairman of HOTEPOSA, Andrew Addoquaye Tagoe, used the opportunity to advise parents to ensure that they renew the National Health Insurance for their children because situations like Mawuko’s may arise when parents do not have money to immediately fund the health care of their children.
